Human Resources
Welcome to the Career Path!
The work we do is about people, relationships, and opportunity.
Every day, we have the privilege of supporting individuals and families as they develop skills, pursue meaningful goals, and create new opportunities throughout life. This responsibility requires more than technical knowledge. It requires compassion, integrity, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve.
We are always interested in connecting with individuals who share our values and believe in treating every person with dignity, respect, and compassion.
If you are looking for more than a job—if you are looking for meaningful work, professional growth, and the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others—we invite you to learn more about joining our team.
Many members of our team are students, professionals pursuing advanced credentials, or individuals exploring long-term career paths. We believe education and professional development are valuable investments. Whenever possible, we strive to support employees as they pursue academic, professional, and personal goals.
Who Thrives at BDS?
While every team member brings unique strengths and experiences, the individuals who are most successful at BDS often share several qualities:
• Compassion for the people we serve and their support systems
• A commitment to ethical and professional practice
• Respect for the dignity and individuality of every person
• A desire to learn, grow, and continuously improve
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Reliability, accountability, and professionalism
• An interest in helping others build meaningful skills and opportunities
We believe technical skills can be taught and strengthened over time. Character, integrity, and a genuine commitment to helping others are equally important. Our commitment to professional growth is rooted in one simple belief:
“We’re not looking for you to stay in the same place forever.
Whether your goal is to become a BCBA, social worker,
occupational therapist, educator, or pursue another professional
path, we want to help you continue learning, growing,
and moving toward the future you want for yourself.”
~ Barbara Erby-Young
People Grow and Careers Evolve
We recognize that employment is often part of a larger journey. Some team members join us while completing college. Others are pursuing advanced credentials, exploring career paths, or building experience for future opportunities.
Our goal is to support people while they are here and help them continue growing long after they leave. We believe investing in people is always worthwhile because learning, growth, and professional development create opportunities that extend far beyond a single position.
Our Hiring Process
We strive to create a safe, professional, and trustworthy environment for the individuals and families we serve. As part of that commitment, all applicants are required to complete the hiring process and successfully pass all required background screenings before employment can begin.
Because we work with vulnerable populations, applicants must have no disqualifying findings on required background checks.
The hiring process may include:
• Online application
• Interview(s)
• Reference checks
• Background screening
• Verification of qualifications and credentials, when applicable
We encourage applicants to take the time to learn about our mission, values, and approach before applying. Finding the right fit is important for both the individual and the organization.
Learning and Professional Growth
We believe learning is a lifelong journey. Just as we help the people we serve develop new skills and create opportunities, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of our team members.
Whether you are just beginning your career or planning your next professional step, we want to help you continue learning, growing, and pursuing your goals.
Our commitment to professional growth includes:
• Mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals
• Access to a Learning Library with articles, resources, and educational materials
• Opportunities for supervision and professional development
• Support for employees interested in advancing from RBT to BCBA, QBA, or IBA credentials
• Tuition discount opportunities through our educational partnerships with California Coast University and Purdue University Global
• Access to financial wellness resources through SECU and Maryland Saves
We recognize that professional growth requires time, effort, and support. Our goal is to create an environment where employees feel encouraged to ask questions, develop new skills, pursue additional education, and build meaningful careers.
We believe strong organizations are built by investing in people. When our employees grow, the individuals and families we serve benefit as well.
Our Commitment to the People We Serve
The individuals and families we support place tremendous trust in us. We do not take that responsibility lightly.
We are committed to providing services that are individualized, ethical, compassionate, and respectful of the dignity of every person. We believe every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate more fully in the life they choose.
We look for team members who share these values and who are committed to helping others build meaningful skills, create opportunities, and pursue their own goals.
Technical skills are important. Equally important are kindness, integrity, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve.
