Greetings…
Welcome back to the blog!
Y’all know I’m known for being straightforward. While I tend to stay on the positive side, I’m not really good at sugar-coating things. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to those who may not know me, and reintroduce myself to everyone else.
My name is Barbara. I am the Founder and President of Breakthrough Developmental Services, and I have worked with people who have differing needs more than 30 years. For at least the last two decades, I have worked with people using the principles and philosophy of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Over that time, I worked at a variety of settings with a diverse group of people with and without a diagnosis.
I am a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst who is licensed in Alabama, Maryland, and Virginia. I am also a Qualified Behavioral Analyst and an International Behavioral Analyst. In 2007, I incorporated Breakthrough Developmental Services based on the principle that everyone can learn, grow, and live a more independent life. That message wasn’t just directed at the people who were going to be receiving direct services, but also their families and their communities. My main aim was to help people reach their goals and, in doing so, make our communities better.
Don’t think this is just a job for me. I have family members and friends who have a variety visible and invisible disabilities. It’s important for me to make sure each individual in my community is seen, heard, and understood.
I’m not sure if my writing today is going to be a one-time thing, if it’s going to evolve into something bigger, or if I will be adding a video series to go with this. There are a couple of ideas getting bounced around on this end, but I just wanted to say, “hi” and wish you well.
Have a wonderful day,
Barbara
